The recent story by Lifesite news about Alyssa Funke, the 19-year-old college student who committed suicide just two weeks after making her first pornographic video, is one of the most heartbreaking we've read recently.

For those who think pornography is harmless, Alyssa's story should stop you in your tracks. Her death cannot be blamed on bullying. And while it cannot be solely blamed on one pornographic film - because it seems that she was living life without understanding her sense of worth and value, this experience obviously was the one that pushed her so deep into that dark tunnel of shame and isolation, she saw no other way out.

Our hearts go out to the friends and family of this beautiful, young lady; and it would be our hope that the story of Alyssa's life and death could be used to dispel the myth that pornography and sexual exploitation of any kind are harmless.

There are excellent points in this article about porn stars struggling with depression, the emotional connection to sex that women experience, and the fact that there are organizations and networks available to those looking to transition out of these lifestyles.
